As part of ICANN’s Registration Data Accuracy Program (RDAP) and the requirements in the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA), domain registrars are required to periodically verify the accuracy of WHOIS/Registration Data contact information provided by registrants and to take action (including possible suspension) if the registrant fails to respond or the data is found to be inaccurate.
